Complex Design for Aged Care, Alondra
The Alondra Apartments project was a significant project for the Bligh Tanner team from early concept phases in 2015 through to practical completion in July 2019. The project is the first stage of redevelopment undertaken by Lutheran Services at their existing Nundah properties. Bligh Tanner delivered the project alongside Woollams Constructions in a collaborative Design and Construct arrangement that achieved high construction efficiency.
Aged Care and Retirement Living projects are becoming increasing complex as the lifestyle amenity offered continues to develop. Engineering challenges include significant landscape works that are used to bring nature in to the buildings; large column free zones to create grand communal spaces; and common facilities including wellness centres and hydrotherapy pools requiring transfer structures to support accommodation above. An understanding of these requirements alongside an ability to overcome the challenges presented has led to our early stage involvement while the concept is still developing. This is the stage at which key decisions are made regarding fundamental aspects of the buildings form, and the stage at which key cost savings and efficiencies can be promoted.
Recently Bligh Tanner delivered the tender design for the Indooroopilly Golf Club Retirement Village. This project will be delivered for Aura Holdings alongside Cox Architecture and a soon to be appointed builder. The work Bligh Tanner has undertaken alongside Cox follows on from the tender design for the Middle Ridge Retirement Village, a similar project in Toowoomba where an area of an existing golf course has been allocated to facilitate the development of independent retirement living.
