The Canopy Café at St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ School is a thoughtfully integrated addition to the campus, reimagining the traditional tuckshop as a contemporary, student-focused environment. The design balances functionality, clarity of planning and material restraint to create a facility that sits comfortably within its established surroundings.
Positioned at the heart of the campus beneath mature fig trees, the café strengthens connections across the school community. It provides a series of informal, flexible spaces that support interaction, respite and social engagement for both primary and secondary students, as well as staff. The inclusion of shaded outdoor areas alongside internal seating enhances usability and reinforces the café’s role as a central gathering place.
Bligh Tanner delivered Structural and Civil engineering services for the project from concept design through to construction, including the café and adjoining amphitheatre. The design response required careful coordination to integrate newly built elements within the existing landscape while maintaining functionality and constructability.
