The Latest News at Bligh Tanner
Bligh Tanner recently welcomed a new team member into its ranks. Please let us introduce you to Dale Stanton, a Principal Water and Civil Engineer:
What inspired you to become an Engineer?
A couple of factors contributed to my pathway into civil engineering. As a youngster, my father worked for Leighton Contractors and I would go to work with him on some Saturdays. I was captivated by both the machinery and construction. After I discovered the joy of problem solving on my journey through life, it was almost inevitable that I would become a civil engineer.
What is your most memorable project?
The Brisbane Showgrounds redevelopment is my most memorable project, with an estimated end value of $2.9 billion, it was the largest urban regeneration project in Queensland’s history. My role for almost eight years was lead civil engineer during design and construction of the trunk and urban infrastructure. The project required collaboration with multiple stakeholders and many design professionals to deliver this complex project within a busy brownfield area.
This project remains a highlight for the complex and challenging engineering, the extensive collaboration, and the opportunity to work on such a significant regeneration project.
What do you think is the key to effective collaboration with architects and landscape architects?
Understanding a client’s vision, motivation and constraints for a project enables us to provide the most meaningful input. The key to understanding in my view is communication, starting with listening and then actively engaging with architects and landscape architects continuously throughout the design process.
Highlight of your career?
There are many highlights, the relationships with the people I have worked with are often forged under pressure and are more valuable for that. The opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across different sectors and with a varied suite of civil engineering components keeps me passionate about the work I do.
What do you enjoy when not at work?
Spending time with my wife and daughter gives me the most joy, and we all enjoy time at the beach together. I also have a passion for classic cars and can often be found wandering about car shows.
