Hobart is Booming!
Bligh Tanner are now part way through their third stand-alone façade consultancy commission on another iconic project in the centre of Hobart.
UTAS – IMAS
The façade engineering to the IMAS building consisted of a range of glazed elements, including double glazed units, cantilever mullion and balustrade systems, overhead glazing, and opaque glass channels faceted around the main entrance.
The glazed units were typically bonded to framing assemblies with glazing tapes, following rigorous research and pressure testing. The project won five awards at the 2014 Tasmanian architecture awards.
UTAS – ACIPA
The Hedberg is a $96M creative industries and performing arts project. Bligh Tanner is providing structural façade engineering services to this heritage listed UTAS building.
When completed, the building will stand as a contemporary icon of culture and the arts in Hobart.
The design of the glass foyer and garage features structurally glazed façades and an aluminium support system, which was designed with newly extruded aluminium sections. All the glazings will be installed on site.
The design stage is fully completed, and the construction phase of these glazing is scheduled for January 2019. Bligh Tanner has also undertaken the commissioning for the structural testing of the L shape silicone joint.
Parliament Square Development
A 26,000m2, $150m development located centrally in the Salamanca district close to the waterfront of Hobart. Comprising a mixed-use office, luxury hotel and several retail outlets.
Bligh Tanner have designed challenging fully glazed overhanging acute angled corners, several curved corners incorporating pre-glazed IGU’s in custom curved Capral sections and pre-fabricated aluminium sections.
The fully glazed bespoke façade also seamlessly overhangs the concrete slab edges and building corners both horizontally, and vertically above and below the building. Our in-house façade engineers have developed unique window wall and curtain wall details in conjunction with Capral, Architects FJMT, and locally based façade contractor Commercial Windows and Doors.
