Emergency Services: QAS Fleet Design Upgrade
What we have achieved
Bligh Tanner recently worked with David Walduck of Lightbox Architecture to prepare accurate and easy to use turning templates for key vehicles in the current Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) fleet. These calculations ensure sufficient room for access and manoeuvring of this critical fleet of emergency vehicles.
What is a turning template?
Turning templates outline the space needed for numerous vehicle types to make various turns. When designing infrastructure for a client, an engineer or drafter can reference these guidelines to pinpoint any problematic areas.
In this case, turning templates were prepared to assist QAS and design professionals to develop new, and upgrade existing, facilities requiring access by QAS vehicles.
The design process
The project involves bringing together information from a variety of existing sources, including QAS historic information, manufacturers published data, and physical measuring of the many variants of ambulances that comprise the QAS fleet.
With the site measuring being undertaken by Lightbox, Bligh Tanner prepared individual and hybrid vehicle models in specialist vehicle turning software to allow spatial modelling of sites to be undertaken.
Working for Emergency + Service Departments
Bligh Tanner has a long history of successful collaboration with Australia’s government services. Our designs are progressive, robust, efficient and sustainable. Our team has worked hard to grow a relationship with these clients that allows them to tackle projects in a cost effective, pragmatic manner that ultimately benefits the communities we serve. We’ve welcomed a partnership with QAS over the years that has successfully brought to fruition projects such as QAS Woodridge, QAS Yarrabilba, QAS Canungra Master Planning and School of Fire and Emergency Services Training (SFEST), among others. Our current collaboration with QAS, delivering an update to the design guidelines for emergency vehicle turning templates, has been brought about through the trust our team has garnered throughout the design process of these projects.
Bligh Tanner place a great importance on building relationships with our clients, builders and the design to reach the best project outcomes. We can support you through all stages of development and delivery of projects while ensuring the protection of design intent and budget.
