Hanlon Park/ Bur’uda: Science Week Project Tour
Inspiring the next generation to explore how Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) careers pathways deliver award-winning, innovative and engaging community spaces.
During Science Week, Bligh Tanner partnered with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) and Tract to deliver an extensive tour of the award-winning Hanlon Park/ Bur’uda project.
The excursion brought together 60 students from Lourdes Hill College, Marist College Ashgrove and Holland Park State School, offering them a unique opportunity to see how STEM disciplines are applied in real-world projects. Set within the backdrop of the revitalised parklands, the tour provided valuable insight into the planning, design, construction and ongoing maintenance behind one of Brisbane’s most celebrated community spaces.
Bligh Tanner team members, alongside project partners, shared their experiences and highlighted the critical roles that urban planners, ecologists, flood and civil engineers, landscape architects and other STEM professionals play in shaping resilient, innovative and vibrant open spaces. Students were guided through key project features while learning how collaboration across disciplines contributes to successful project outcomes.
A series of interactive activities encouraged students to think critically, engage with site challenges and constraints, and explore the diverse pathways available within STEM careers. By connecting classroom learning with practical application, the tour aimed to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals in the construction industry.
