ABC Radio Brisbane speaks to Bligh Tanner about flood resilience

Discussing highly topical subjects such as flood resilience in defence of our communities and in preparation for the Olympics, climate change and urban creeks, Civil and Water Director Alan Hoban was interviewed yesterday by ABC Radio Brisbane’s Steve Austin. The duo particularly discussed the naturalisation of Stones Corner’s Hanlon Park. During the interview Alan noted that, “We can design our urban environment so that we get healthier, more natural looking creeks, create room for water and engaging community places.”

Of the recent flooding events Brisbane has been dealing with Steve Austin asked, “Can we engineer our way out of being bitten by the brown snake that is the Brisbane river?”

Moving on from last century’s engineering tactics we can assert that now “We’re designing smarter…so that we shouldn’t have to suffer these ongoing losses” said Alan.
