Alumina Refinery Water Cooling Tower

Client: ALCAN Engineering
Project Manager: ALCAN Engineering
Location: Gove, Northern Territory

  • The 40mx11m four-cell tower was designed and fully shop detailed by Bligh Tanner for prefabrication of all elements above the substructure.
  • All panels, including the 11m high inter-cell panels, were cast on site and lifted into place using existing cranes.
  • Full cell width access doors meet the operation and maintenance requirements of the tower.
  • Close attention to sealant selection and connection detailing deal with the very high water temperatures in the tower.
  • Constructed on a stiffened ground raft to allow for poor ground conditions.
