Paul Callum is Director of Structures at Bligh Tanner Pty Ltd. His expertise spans structural planning and design of architectural, industrial and heritage buildings, landscape and art structures, community infrastructure and bridges. Paul’s 30 years of experience has seen him travel widely in the Asia Pacific Region working on major projects. Over this time, Paul has developed an exceptional level of understanding of structural function and forensics, and has become an in-demand, independent advisor. In particular, Paul’s respect for ‘architectural intent’, imaginative design, quality materials and clear communication has positioned him as an expert in heritage projects and large-scale public art installations.
Most recently, Paul travelled to Myanmar and Kashmir to advise on retaining heritage structures. He is currently leading the Bligh Tanner structural team on the $100M Carrara Commonwealth Games Stadium, where he has provided the lead structural input into the design development and systems choice for the primary structures. Paul was also instrumental to the adopted construction approach. As well as many memorable installations at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art, Paul was responsible for the recent $150M Greenslopes Private Hospital Extensions.
Prior to joining Bligh Tanner in 2001, Paul gained broad experience working in renowned firms both in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. He was a Principal of Arup for a number of years. Paul is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Australia, and studied engineering at The University of Queensland.
